Czechs Win Georgian Electricity Privatization Tender

(RFE/RL) June 20, 2006 -- Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli says a Czech company, Energo-Pro, has bought six hydroelectric power plants in Georgia and two electricity distributors at a cost of more than $317 million.

A third electricity distributor put up for sale in this major privatization tender was bought by a Georgian energy group.


Eight companies placed bids for the electricity distributors and generators, including Russia's United Energy Systems.
