June 29, 2006 -- Energy and trade were central topics in discussions today in a meeting in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.
Putin praised the strengthening of economic ties between the two countries, and said there were broad opportunities for cooperation in energy and atomic energy.
Putin said Russia would like to increase trade, which, he said, is growing by 30-45 percent each year.
He also said that he is " very pleased to note that we share the same positions on many key issues on the international agenda."
Sezer also praised the growing level of trade between the countries, which he said reflected positively on their political relations.
Russia is the second-biggest exporter of goods to Turkey, while Turkey is the eighth-largest source of imports for Russia.
