UN Says Independent Kosovo Must Be Safe For Serbs

oren Jessen-Petersen (file photo) (epa) June 29, 2006 -- The outgoing head of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) today urged ethnic Albanians not to make life a "nightmare" for minorities once they achieve their "dream" of independence.

Soren Jessen-Petersen issued the message in a farewell address to the provincial assembly on June 29. He is leaving the UN-administered province on June 30 after two years as head of UNMIK.
