Saakashvili Says Russia Seeking To Annex Georgian Territory

Russian peacekeepers in Abkhazia (ITAR-TASS) July 11, 2006 -- Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has accused Russia of trying to annex Georgian territory through the continued deployment of its peacekeepers in two breakaway regions.

Saakashvili said on July 11 that the Georgian parliament should soon rule on the presence of the peacekeepers.

Russia and Georgia have been at odds for years over the troops in the separatist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
