July 23, 2006 -- An Afghan official says NATO-led British troops and Afghan soldiers today killed 19 suspected members of the Taliban.
The deputy governor of Helmand Province, Amir Mohammad Akhund, said British and Afghan forces attacked several villages in a pre-dawn operation outside Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital, where Taliban fighters were hiding.
He said 17 suspected militants, including two Pakistanis, were arrested.
The Taliban had no immediate comment.
