July 27, 2006 -- The trial of Saddam Hussein and seven other defendants adjourned today until October 16 to allow the court to consider its verdict.
The ousted Iraqi leader did not attend the session today.
Hussein and the other former senior officials are charged with the killing of 148 Shi'a after an attempt on his life in Al-Dujayl in 1982.
The prosecution has asked for the death penalty for Hussein and two others.
Hussein faces a second trial on August 21 on charges of genocide against Iraq's ethnic Kurds.
