July 28, 2006 -- A team of nuclear inspectors have found two radioactive devices in a mountainous region of Georgia.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on July 28 that a team comprising officials from the IAEA and the Georgian Environment Ministry found one of the radioactive sources in a tin of nuts and bolts in northwestern Georgia.
Another, more powerful source was found in the village of Iri.
Radioactive materials were used to generate power in remote areas in Soviet times.
