Tajikistan Calls For Help After Earthquake

Survivors of a mudslide in 2003 survey the damage (ITAR-TASS) August 2, 2006 -- Tajikistan is calling for help to rebuild three villages near the border with Afghanistan that were destroyed in a recent earthquake.

A spokesman for President Imomali Rakhmonov today said the country needs funds to rebuild infrastructure, such as schools and offices.


Turkey has already offered its help.


The July 29 quake killed three children, displaced more than 1,000 people, and damaged an estimated 1,500 houses.
