2 August, 2006 -- Police in Afghanistan's southern Helmand Province say 18 Taliban militants have been killed near the town of Garmser.
They say the militants were killed during a security raid on a village and that coalition aircraft participated in the operation.
Also today, unidentified attackers fired shots at a Danish army camp in southern Afghanistan, wounding one soldier.
Three British soldiers were killed in Helmand Province on August 1.
NATO's top military commander, U.S. General James L. Jones, said today in Brussels those attacks would not deter the alliance, which took over from coalition forces in southern Afghanistan on July 31, from helping to stabilize the country.
In other violence, a car exploded today in Kabul, killing the driver and another two people.
