Indian and Tajik media today report both sides on August 7 vowed to join forces against organized crime, terrorism, and money laundering. They also agreed to develop ties in a number of areas, including industry, agriculture, education, and transportation.
Rakhmonov invited Indian companies to participate in a number of energy projects, including the construction of the Dashtijum hydroelectric dam on the Tajik-Afghan border.
Addressing a gathering of Indian businessmen, the Tajik president said the current volume of bilateral trade is far below the potential of both countries.
Singh's office says bilateral trade volume was $12 million in 2005-06.
The Indo-Asian News Service quotes Rakhmonov as saying the figure in 2001-02 was $30 million.
