August 10, 2006 -- Israeli aircraft dropped leaflets over parts of Beirut today, saying Israel intends to widen its offensive on the Lebanese capital.
The leaflets called on residents to leave three southern suburbs, where support of Hizballah is strong, immediately.
Israeli warplanes also dropped leaflets over northern Israel, warning that trucks could face attack after 1700 UTC along the coast road linking Lebanon to Syria.
The warnings came after Israeli officials said the military would hold off expanding its ground offensive in southern Lebanon to give diplomatic efforts another chance to reach a cease-fire.
Earlier today, Israeli troops pushed deeper into Lebanon, seizing the town of Marjayoun, about 9 kilometers from the border with Israel.
