Violence Around Baghdad Kills 14

Suspected insurgents seized in a raid earlier this summer (epa) August 24, 2006 -- The U.S. military says 12 Iraqis and two U.S. soldiers have died in the latest wave of violence in Iraq.

Five Iraqi civilians and three police officers died in a range of separate bombings and shootings around Baghdad on August 24.


One U.S. soldier was killed on August 24 by a roadside bomb.


Police also discovered the bodies of two men who had been kidnapped, including a police officer. One of the men had been decapitated.


The U.S. military also said a U.S. soldier and two "foreign terrorists" were killed on August 23 during a raid aimed at capturing suspected terrorists. The raid was on an undisclosed location south of Baghdad. The military gave no other details about the operation.
