Iran Permits Banned Newspaper To Publish Again

Ethnic Azeri students at Tabriz University at a protest in May against the cartoons (Courtesy Photo) September 2, 2006 -- Iranian authorities are allowing a government newspaper to start publishing again after its chief editor was acquitted on charges related to the publication of a cartoon that provoked riots by Iran's Azeri community.

A cartoon in the newspaper, "Iran," depicted an ethnic Azeri as a cockroach, prompting days of clashes between police and thousands of people in the northwest of Iran in which four people died.
