Members of Russia's elite Spetsnaz unit during counterterrorism exercises last December (OSCE)
September 19, 2006 -- Uzbekistan and Russia are today starting a five-day counterterrorism exercise in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia.
The drill will involve 130 special-forces troops from Uzbekistan and Russian special units and airborne troops stationed in the North Caucasus.
The Russian and Uzbek defense ministers are expected to attend the exercise in person.
