September 24, 2006 -- NATO forces have killed more than 60 suspected insurgents over the last several days in southern Afghanistan.
Afghanistan's Defense Ministry said 40 Taliban fighters were killed mainly by NATO air strikes in Helmand Province.
A NATO helicopter, meanwhile, fired on about 20 insurgents who had attacked a NATO patrol in the Naw Zad district, also in Helmand, killing 15 of the suspected insurgents.
In a third incident, eight suspected insurgents were killed in nearby Sangin district.
