October 9, 2006 -- Russia's RusAl has announced a three-way merger to create the world's largest aluminum company. Rusal will merge with a Russian rival, Sual, and a Swiss-based company, Glencore.
RusAl is owned by the Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, Sual is also private-owned.
Plans for the merger were confirmed in September, after Sual co-chairman Viktor Vekselberg discussed them with
President Vladimir Putin.
