Afghan Governor Survives Assassination Attempt

Gulab Mangal, governor of Laghman Province (file photo) (epa) October 14, 2006 -- Gulab Mangal, the governor of the eastern Afghan province of Laghman, has survived an assassination attempt.

One person was killed when in when a bomb struck the first vehicle of the governor's convoy. Mangal was in the second vehicle.


Elsewhere, six Afghan police officers died after a roadside bomb hit their convoy on October 13 in eastern Afghanistan.
