October 16, 2006 -- A moderate daily hit Iran's newsstands today.
Called "Ruzgar (Times), the new broadsheet looks similar to "Sharq" (East), the leading moderate newspaper Iran's conservative press watchdog recently suspended.
Bylines show many of the journalists writing for "Ruzgar" are former "Sharq" contributors.
"Sharq" was temporarily shut down on September 12 for allegedly publishing defamatory articles.
Iran's judiciary has closed dozens reformist publications in recent years.
