October 17, 2006 -- A top Russian general said today that Moscow would view the planned deployment of U.S. missile defense systems in Central and Eastern Europe as a threat to its security and that it would take appropriate measures.
In an article published in the newspaper "Izvestia," Yevgeny Buzhinsky, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry's international military cooperation department, urged the United States to refrain from what he described as unilateral action.
Buzhinsky did not elaborate on a possible Russian response to the possible deployment of U.S. missile defense systems to countries such as Poland and Czech Republic.
