Germany Agrees To Continue Training Afghan Police

A German soldier on patrol in Kabul (epa) October 23, 2006 -- The German interior minister, Wolfgang Schaeuble, and his Afghan counterpart, Moqbal Zarar, today signed an agreement under which Germany will continue to train police officers in Afghanistan.

Germany has been training Afghan policemen in Kabul, Mazar-e Sharif, Konduz, and Faizabad for the past four years and has spent some 70 million euros on the project.

A German spokesman said the agreement was extended indefinitely but would be reviewed on a yearly basis.
