October 25, 2006 -- NATO-led troops killed 38 suspected Taliban militants in two separate strikes in southern Afghanistan.
A NATO spokesman, Major Luke Knittig, says the engagements occurred in the Zhari and Panjwayi districts of Kandahar Province on October 24.
Unconfirmed reports say the fighting also claimed 60 civilian lives.
The area was the focus of nearly two weeks of intense fighting last month.
In another development, Afghan police and NATO troops seized more than nine tons of hashish in Zabul Province, which borders Pakistan.
