October 29, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Voters in one district of Kyrgyzstan's southern Osh region chose their parliamentarian today.
A former parliament speaker and the former representative of Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev in southern Kyrgyzstan, Almambet Matubraimov, is among the eight candidates running for the seat in the Myrzake constituency.
The post became vacant after Jantoro Satybaldiev was appointed regional governor earlier this year.
In an interview with RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service, Mamatimin Ismailov, a representative of one of the candidates, Adambek Turkpayev, accused Matubraimov of using local administrative support.
"The administrative resources are being used by local authorities, from the Osh region's governor and below," Ismailov said. "There is no pressure [from authorities] higher up. Almambet Matubraimov is carrying out agitation in some places, saying there is such an order from the highest places [President Bakiev to support him]."
Matubraimov's aides rejected such accusations.
Preliminary results are expected to be announced on October 30 morning.
