About 30 Dead In Baghdad Explosion

An anit-U.S. demonstration in Sadr City on October 29 (epa) October 30, 2006 -- Iraqi security officials have said around 30 people were killed and more than 50 injured in an explosion today in the mainly Shi'ite Sadr City area of Baghdad.

Reports said it appeared a bomb exploded among laborers lining up for daily jobs in a crowded market.

There were conflicting reports as to whether the blast was caused by a suicide bomber or a device concealed amid debris by the roadside.

Sadr City is a stronghold of the Al-Mahdi Army militia blamed for much of the sectarian violence rocking the city.
