Russia Criticizes Draft UN Proposal On Iran Sanctions

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov (file photo) (epa) November 1, 2006 -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today said a draft UN resolution authored by France, Germany, and Britain to impose sanctions on Tehran over its nuclear ambitions would isolate Iran.
Interfax quotes Lavrov as saying Moscow "cannot support measures that are aimed at isolating Iran from the outside world."

It also quotes him as saying that the proposal exceeds the framework of earlier agreements on how the UN would respond to Iran's nuclear energy program.
