November 8, 2006 -- Two Iranian human rights groups are expressing concern over the situation of a jailed student activist and blogger, Kianoush Sanjari, who was arrested in Tehran in early October.
The Student Committee for the Defense of Political prisoners and the Student Committee of Human Right Reporters say Sanjari is being held in Tehran's notorious Evin prison and is being subjected to torture and other forms of coercion.
Sanjari was reportedly arrested during clashes between security forces and supporters of an outspoken cleric, Ayatollah Kazemeyni Boroujerdi.
Boroujerdi was arrested at his home in Tehran on 8 October, along with dozens of his followers. Most of them are believed to still be in jail.
