Armenia-Azerbaijan Summit Proposed

Elmar Mammadyarov in Brussels on November 13 (official site) November 15, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov says the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents, Ilham Aliyev and Robert Kocharian, could meet soon for talks aimed at resolving the conflict over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh territory.

Mammadyarov, who met with his Armenian counterpart on November 14 in Brussels, said international mediators of the OSCE Minsk group have backed a possible meeting of the presidents on the sidelines of a Commonwealth of Independent States summit at the end of this month in the Belarus capital, Minsk -- but no meeting has yet been confirmed.
