An Iraqi boy sleeps at a camp for displaced persons in Baghdad in June (epa) November 20, 2006 -- Jacques Forster, the vice president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, says half a million Iraqis are now "internally displaced" within Iraq.

Forster made the remark at a Red Cross conference in Singapore today.

Last month, the UN refugee agency said 754,000 Iraqis were estimated to have been displaced since 2003.

Many of those are thought to have fled the country.
