November 29, 2006 -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the West that discussing energy security without Russia was counterproductive.
Lavrov was commenting from Moscow on a NATO summit that ended today in Latvia and addressed, among other issues, reducing Europe's growing dependence on Russian energy.
"I cannot dictate to NATO what to do, but energy security, of course, is a matter that concerns all and which should be discussed, taking into account the interests and approaches of all the key players," Lavrov said.
Russia currently supplies almost half of the gas consumed by Europe.
