Chemical Weapons Deadline Extended For U.S., Russia

A plant in Gorny built to destroy Russia's stockpile of chemical weapons (ITAR-TASS) December -- The United States and Russia have been given five more years to destroy their stockpiles of chemical weapons.

The extension was announced at The Hague today by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.


U.S. officials have said they were unable to complete the task by the old deadline.


The new deadline is April 30, 2012.
