Police secure the scene of today's market bombing in Baghdad (AFP) January 22, 2007 -- Two nearly simultaneous bombs exploded in a largely Shi'ite market neighborhood in central Baghdad today, killing at least 65 people and wounding more than 100.

The latest bombings come after a series of deadly attacks on military forces in Iraq over the last two days, in which at least 24 U.S. troops were killed.

On January 21, a bomb blast in a minibus killed at least five people and wounding 15 in Baghdad's central Karrada district.

The same day, the U.S. military reported the deaths of 24 of its soldiers on January 19. Twelve were killed in a helicopter crash that is under investigation, while the others were killed in attacks around the country.

In the southern city of Al-Basrah, a roadside bomb on January 21 killed a British soldier and wounded four others.
