Pentagon Report Cites 'Dubious' Prewar Iraq Intelligence

February 9, 2007 -- An internal report by the U.S. Defense Department faults civilian defense officials for exaggerating the link between Saddam Hussein's Iraq and Al-Qaeda.

The report was conducted by the Pentagon's inspector-general's office. The report singles out former Undersecretary of Defense Douglas Feith for developing and issuing "dubious" intelligence used to bolster the case for the invasion of Iraq.

Excerpts of the report were released by Senator Carl Levin (Democrat, Michigan), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
