Ford Workers In Russia Hold One-Day Strike

Ford plant workers demonstrating on February 8 (ITAR-TASS) February 14, 2007 -- Workers at U.S. car giant Ford's only assembly plant in Russia are holding a 24-hour strike today.

The nearly 1,400 striking workers at the plant in Vsevolozhsk, near St. Petersburg, are demanding a salary increase and more social benefits.

Aleksei Etmanov, the head of the plant's labor union, said workers planned to launch an open-ended strike if the company failed to meet their demands.


Monthly wages at the plant average the equivalent of $600.
