New Rape Allegations Leveled Against Iraqi Authorities

(RFE/RL) February 22, 2007 -- New rape allegations against Iraqi authorities appeared today, in the second such case this week.

A military officer in the northern Iraqi city of Tal Afar said an ethnic-Turkoman woman has accused four officers of raping her and attempting to rape her two daughters.

The officer said the men have been referred to judicial authorities.

Earlier this week, a Sunni woman said police officers raped her when she was in custody, but the men were quickly cleared of charges in the politically volatile case.
