Russian Opposition Figure Withdraws From Politics

Sergei Glazev speaking to RFE/RL in 2006 (RFE/RL) March 9, 2007 -- Former Russian presidential candidate Sergei Glazev says he is retiring from politics.

Glazev -- who finished third in the 2004 presidential election -- said President Vladimir Putin's concentration of power had left no room for debate.

Glazev said Putin had concentrated power even more than the tsars.

Glazev is currently a member of the Russian State Duma. He was formerly the co-chairman of the now-defunct nationalist party Rodina (Motherland).
