March 11, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- An international conference of Persian-speaking media has started in Tajikistan, RFE/RL's Tajik Service reported.
More than 60 media representatives from countries including Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia were expected to attend the three-day meeting in the Tajik capital.
The conference was expected to create an association of Persian-speaking journalists and to find common grounds for future cooperation.
An organizer told RFE/RL ahead of the event that there is a "lack of news coverage in Farsi" and a "decrease of the influence" of the language.
