The extra troops are in addition to a 21,500-troop buildup that Bush announced in January.

There are currently around 141,000 U.S. troops in Iraq, including the first deployment of soldiers in connection with the January announcement.

The budget revisions comes as many U.S. lawmakers opposed to the buildup are debating funding for the war.
