Bombers In Iraq Conduct Chlorine Gas Attacks

(RFE/RL) March 17, 2007 -- The U.S. military says insurgents have detonated explosives on three trucks carrying toxic chlorine gas in western Iraq, killing as many as eight people and causing hundreds of others to seek treatment.

All three attacks occurred on March 16. Two of the attacks were carried out south of Al-Fallujah, the other one northeast of nearby Ramadi.

The military said that around 350 Iraqi civilians and six coalition troops were treated for chlorine-gas exposure.
