Blasts Claim Civilians In Afghanistan

(RFE/RL) April 22, 2007 -- At least four civilians were killed and 10 other people wounded, including police officers, in two bomb attacks in Afghanistan's eastern town of Khost today.
The first blast occurred in a mobile telephone shop in a produce market. An hour later, a suicide bomber blew himself up after being chased by police, near the previous explosion.

Recent Clashes

Suspected Taliban militants ambushed a police patrol in eastern Afghanistan on April 21 in a clash that left five militants and a police officer dead.

Meanwhile, NATO-led troops shot dead a suspected militant and wounded another in the south.

Local police said the policeman and militants were killed in fighting in Paktiya Province.

In neighboring Nangarhar Province, U.S. and Afghan troops killed one person and detained nine others during a raid on a compound on April 21.
