Iranian Students End Protest Against New Rules

(RFE/RL) April 24, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- Some 1,000 university students in Tehran have ended a protest against the tightening of rules on students' behavior and dress code after university officials promised the rules would be eased, Radio Farda reports today.

The protest began in Shiraz University on April 22 after the new rules were announced.

Those rules include a ban against the wearing of short trousers and tank top shirts in the dormitories by male students.

Students have vowed to resume their protest within three weeks if the rules are not eased.
