Iran To Ease Expulsion Of Illegal Afghan Residents

Afghans being deported from Iran in early May (Fars) May 14, 2007 -- Iran has agreed to slow down a drive to expel illegal Afghan residents to their home country.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Safari said President Mahmud Ahmadinejad had agreed to repatriate Afghans in a "gradual and orderly way."

Safari spoke at a meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Kabul a day after Iran said it had expelled 85,000 illegal Afghan residents in the past three weeks.
