Baghdad Market Bombings Kill At Least 31

(RFE/RL) May 22, 2007 -- At least 31 people were killed today by two separate car bombs in southwestern Baghdad.
The attacks wounded over 80 people.

Earlier, in the nearby Khadra neighborhood, gunmen ambushed a car carrying three plainclothes police officers, killing two and wounding the third.

Meanwhile, U.S. and Iraqi troops freed another 12 hostages in the western Al-Anbar Governorate today and killed nine alleged insurgents, one day after freeing five people in a similar raid, the military said.
