U.S. Confirms Body Of Missing Soldier Found In Iraq

U.S. Major General William Caldwell confirmed the body was that of one of the missing soldiers (AFP) May 24, 2007 -- The U.S. military has confirmed that a body pulled from the Euphrates River near Baghdad was that of one of three missing U.S. soldiers.

Iraqi police on May 23 found the corpse in the river in the Mussayab area south of the capital.


The body, wearing parts of a U.S. uniform, had bullet wounds and signs of torture.


The soldier went missing with two comrades after their patrol was ambushed on May 12 in Al-Mahmudiyah, an insurgent stronghold south of Baghdad.
