EU To Resume Talks With Serbia Next Week

Zdravko Tolimir (file photo) was arrested on May 31 (AFP) June 7, 2007 -- The European Union will resume talks on closer relations with Serbia on June 13.

Announcing the decision in a statement today, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said Belgrade has demonstrated a "clear commitment" to cooperate with the UN war crimes tribunal.

The EU froze talks with Serbia on a Stabilization and Association Agreement -- the first step toward eventual EU membership -- in 2006 because of Belgrade's failure to cooperate with the tribunal.

Today's announcement comes after the arrest on May 31 of Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Zdravko Tolimir.
