July 13, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- The European Union today criticized Iran for the stoning death of a man convicted for adultery, calling it a "horrendous method" of punishment.
Iran confirmed on July 10 the recent stoning of Jafar Kiani, but said the case of his partner, Mokarrameh Ebrahimi, is being reviewed.
EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner called on Iran "as a matter of utmost urgency" to suspend the sentence on Ebrahimi.
