July 16, 2007 -- A former Serbian police general has pleaded not guilty to alleged atrocities against ethnic Albanians in Kosovo during an appearance today before the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
Vlastimir Djordjevic was indicted in October 2003 for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Kosovo in 1999. He was arrested in Montenegro in June 2007 after years on the run.
At an earlier appearance at the UN tribunal, Djordjevic refused to enter a plea.
It is not known yet when his trial will start. He faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment if convicted.
