Prominent Kazakh Journalists Injured In Traffic Accident

(RFE/RL) ALMATY, August 10, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- Three well-known Kazakh journalists were injured in a traffic accident in Almaty today, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reported.
The journalists -- Bakhytzhan Mukushev, Dzhanibek Suleev, and Kenzhe Tatilla -- were traveling in a van when a car smashed into their vehicle.

All were transferred to hospital, with Mukushev in serious condition.

The traffic death last week of another prominent journalist, Saken Tauzhanov, prompted skeptics to question the official account of his death, which was declared an accident.

Rozlana Taukina, head of the Kazakh nogovernmental group Journalists in Trouble, says seven other reporters have died under similar circumstances since 2002.
