Kazakhstan Today News Agency Resumes Operation

The agency's closure was linked to the charges against former owner Aliev (epa) August 15, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- The Kazakhstan Today news agency announced today that it will resume operations, some two months after it was suspended from operating, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reported.

The agency was closed down in connection with an arrest warrant issued for its former owner, Rakhat Aliev.

Kazakhstan Today and other media outlets that once belonged to Aliev are reportedly under new ownership.

Aliev, the former son-in-law of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev and a former ambassador to Austria, is wanted in Kazkahstan on charges of corruption, money laundering, and kidnapping. He is currently living in Austria, which has refused to extradite him.
