Afghan, Foreign Forces Kill At Least 40 Taliban

U.S. and Afghan troops in Afghanistan (file photo) (AFP) September 1, 2007 -- The U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan says Afghan police and foreign forces killed at least 40 Taliban militants in separate clashes in the restive south.

The coalition said in a statement the combined force was on a combat patrol on August 31 in Helmand Province when insurgents attacked.


The statement said "almost two dozen" insurgents were killed. In the other incident, Afghan police and coalition forces killed 18 alleged militants in a battle in southern Ghazni Province.


Local officials said another six militants were arrested.
