September 6, 2007 -- The U.S. military says more than 40 insurgents have been killed in a battle with Afghan and U.S.-led coalition forces.
The military said insurgents ambushed a coalition patrol September 5 in Kandahar Province's Shah Wali Kot district, sparking a 12-hour battle.
The U.S.-led military says coalition forces have killed hundreds of Taliban in a series of confrontations in recent weeks.
The Taliban has said its losses are much smaller.
