NATO Seeks Kyrgyz Forces For Multinational Training

(RFE/RL) September 11, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- A NATO delegation has arrived in Bishkek for talks with officials of the Kyrgyz Defense Ministry, Foreign Ministry, and the border and national security services.

A spokeswoman for the Defense Ministry, Aizada Igibaeva, told RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service that the three-day talks will address Kyrgyzstan's participation in NATO's Partnership for Peace Planning and Review Process.

This process is designed to provide a basis for identifying and evaluating forces and capabilities which could be made available for multinational training, exercises, and operations with NATO forces.

Kyrgyzstan joined NATO's Partnership for Peace program in 1994.
